The Beijing International Marathon is organized by the Chinese Athletics Association(CAA) and approved by the State Sports General Administration of China, as well as the Municipal Government of Beijing. Recorded officially by the Association of International Marathons and Road Races, the BIM is the highest-level marathon in China. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has sanctioned and approved the BIM as one of the top marathons in the world. This allows participants of the BIM to receive IAAF scores. First held in 1981 and annually ever since, it has become a very famous and traditional international race.

The BIM provides a spacious, smooth competitive route, with a mild climate, prizes for successful runners and a high level of organization and competition.
